Read the words on the sheet in your child’s homework section, titled ‘Reading - Friday 8th January’. The children need to sound the letters out and blend the word together. They will know how to do this. If they struggle, you can help them sound the word out by exaggerating each sound.
Writing
Practise writing the words on the writing grid ‘Writing - Friday 6th January’.
The children can then write a simple sentence using those words e.g. I can sit on a mat. Try to do as many as you can using the 6 words. Your child might find it easier if you talk through the sentences and count how many words are in each sentence before trying to write it. Try and encourage your child to use a capital letter, finger spaces between each word and a full stop at the end. If you child is struggling, try to get them to do it very simply e.g. A pan or they can just write the initial sounds for the sentence.

Understanding the World (All About Me)
In this lesson, we join Mrs Garrard to reflect on the different types of homes that people live in. We identify key features of a house and then use this knowledge to build a representation of a house from construction materials. This lesson can be extended by going on a neighbourhood walk and noting the different types of home in your area.
