Swimming is an essential life skill which we value at Ightenhill. In 2015 - 2016, we spent additional sports premium funding on an extra swimming lesson for children in years 5 and 6. This ensured that all children could swim a minimum of 25m before leaving key stage two. It also introduced competent swimmers to competitive swimming techniques and circuit training to improve their fitness.
In our summer swimming gala, children competed against other local schools, securing two silver and two bronze medals.
Our year three and four children swim for two terms each. This takes place on Wednesdays, with children spending 30minutes in the pool. It is anticipated that children will be able to swim a minimum of 10m by the end of year 3 and a minimum of 25m by the end of year 4.
