Hello year 4!

Well it’s our final week at school. It has been an extraordinary year. Although we didn’t get to spend the whole year together, it has been an absolute pleasure to not only teach, but get to know each and every one of you.

I hope that you have a fantastic summer holidays and use this time to relax ready for September. Although it may seem scary moving onto a new corridor to Year 5, I can assure you that you will enjoy every minute with your new teacher.

Remember, although I may not be your class teacher as of September, I will still be here if you ever need a chat.

Enjoy your summer and I look forward to seeing you all again.

I will miss you all very much.

All the best,

Miss Atkin

Hello Year 4,

As some of you may have seen, there has been a lot happening in the news lately about racism. With protests and demonstrations  taking place around the world in recent weeks and people talking about removing old statues, it's likely you've heard the word 'racism' a lot recently.

This is a really important topic that needs to be spoken about. We can learn more about it and this will help us to understand what it is and how we can help to make sure this doesn’t happen.

As we have learnt from our Black History topic back in September, there are many monumental black people that have made a positive change to the world through their bravery and courage.

We learnt about Harriet Tubman, who was born into slavery. She broke free, and then returned to rescue many other slaves in the process.

There is Rosa Parks that refused to give her seat up on the bus just because the colour of her skin. This was all part of her mission for equality.

Martin Luther King was also an inspirational spokesperson and leader in the civil rights movement.

All of these people have proudly stood up for what they believe in. Unfortunately, there is still racism in the world that we live in. There are many people that face inequality and are treated differently due to the colour of their skin.

Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King and many more people like this, all believed in something called ‘diversity’ this means that everyone is unique and everyone is different. They believed that everyone should be treated equally.

It is so important that both in and outside of school, everyone is treated equally no matter their race or ethnicity.

Let me know if you have seen anything in the news or have any questions about this subject. If you want to find out more, I have left a link to Newsround below.

There are also some activities for you to access on Purple Mash as well as some activities below for you to complete.

VE Day

Hello Year 4!

This Friday 8th May, celebrates VE Day. This marks 75 years since the end of World War II in Europe.

75 years ago, street parties were held all over Britain to celebrate this great victory. Colourful bunting and flags were displayed around every town and city. On the eve of VE Day, bonfires were lit and people danced and sang in the streets. Other various events were also organised including parades, thanksgiving services and street parties.

Although we may not be able to celebrate in some of these ways, we can still decorate our houses with red, white and blue. Below, I have attached ideas for lots of activities on how you can celebrate this day. Why not get creative and make some bunting of your own? Or help an adult make a picnic or bake something?

Also, who can tell me what 'VE' actually stands for? Have a little research and see if you can find the answer. Have a look at some of these activities below, I would love to see what you all come up with!

Hello Year 4!

As Caitlyn Jenner would say in the jungle “Another day to excel!”

Just letting you know that I am in school every Monday during school hours if you need to speak to me over the phone.

Make sure that you have been getting on with your new work pack. Mr Farrar and I will keep adding more activities for you to do on Purple Mash. I have also set up some new tournaments on TT Rockstars, let’s see if we can get these scores up even more!

I hope that you have had another lovely week and have been keeping busy. Make sure you are still getting outside for some fresh air, the sunny weather seems to have returned!

This week I have been doing some baking. I made some cupcakes; you will find the recipe and method to this on our class page. Go to ‘weekly challenges and activities’ >>> ‘Baking activities’ >>> ‘Cupcakes’. Let me know if you have had a go at this recipe or have done any baking of your own, I would love to see!

I have seen in the news this week that archaeologists have discovered around 30 coffins with mummies inside! They were thought to be buried around 3,500 years ago with jewellery in Luxor, Egypt. I thought that this would interest you all after studying our Egyptian topic earlier on this year. I have attached some links below for you to look at.

Let me know if you’ve seen anything interesting in the news this week that you’d like to share. I have posted the ‘Newsround’ link onto the ‘Useful links and websites’ part of our class page for you to access.

Remember to stay in touch and keep us updated on everything that you have been up to!

Missing you lots,
