Hello Year 4!

Here we are at the beginning of week 11! I hope that you are all enjoying your half term. Make sure that you take a break from the work and enjoy the sunshine!

This week I have been on a bike ride. I have posted a picture below for you to see, don’t laugh Class 10 (or parents.) Now this hill doesn’t look very big, but I can assure you that it was and the majority of the ride consisted of hills similar to this one. I think it’s safe to say that I won’t be taking part in the ‘Tour of Britain’ anytime soon.

I hope that you have all been getting on with your work packs, the June work pack will be available very soon. I know how tricky it can be to concentrate at home so don’t worry about getting it all done at once, just try to ensure that you are completing a bit of it each week.

Remember, Mr Farrar and I are always here to help if you need anything, be sure to send us an email if you need any help or even if you just want to let us know how you are getting on!

Random Acts of Kindness

18/05/20

This week, we are thinking about random acts of kindness in an attempt to inspire kindness in unforeseen times. We would love to find out about the ways in which our children are spreading kindness - we have also included a list from Mental Health Foundation to inspire you.

1) Pick an item from the list below
2) Take action
3) Share the kindness by emailing me (ightenhillclass10@ightenhill.lancs.sch.uk) and we will showcase your kind act in our class gallery.

  • Call a friend that you haven’t spoken to for a while
  • Tell a family member how much you love and appreciate them
  • Make a cup of tea for someone you live with
  • Arrange to have a cup of tea and virtual catch up with someone you know
  • Help with a household chore at home
  • Arrange to watch a film at the same time as a friend and video call
  • Tell someone you know that you are proud of them
  • Tell someone you know why you are thankful for them
  • Send a motivational text to a friend who is struggling
  • Send someone you know a joke to cheer them up
  • Send someone you know a picture of a cute animal
  • Write to a friend
  • Send an interesting article to a friend
  • Contact someone you haven’t seen in a while and arrange a phone catch up

  • Donate to a charity
  • Arrange to have a video lunch with a friend
  • Send an inspirational story of kindness people around the world are doing for others to someone you know
  • Donate to a foodbank

What other ideas can you think of?

Here is another example; Jessica from our class made a visit to our school office to drop of a homemade bath bomb. This was a thoughtful act of kindness, thank you Jessica!

VE Day

Hello Year 4!

This Friday 8th May, celebrates VE Day. This marks 75 years since the end of World War II in Europe.

75 years ago, street parties were held all over Britain to celebrate this great victory. Colourful bunting and flags were displayed around every town and city. On the eve of VE Day, bonfires were lit and people danced and sang in the streets. Other various events were also organised including parades, thanksgiving services and street parties.

Although we may not be able to celebrate in some of these ways, we can still decorate our houses with red, white and blue. Below, I have attached ideas for lots of activities on how you can celebrate this day. Why not get creative and make some bunting of your own? Or help an adult make a picnic or bake something?

Also, who can tell me what 'VE' actually stands for? Have a little research and see if you can find the answer. Have a look at some of these activities below, I would love to see what you all come up with!

Enjoy,

Miss Atkin

Week commencing 04/05/20

Hello Year 4!

As Caitlyn Jenner would say in the jungle “Another day to excel!”

Just letting you know that I am in school every Monday during school hours if you need to speak to me over the phone.

Make sure that you have been getting on with your new work pack. Mr Farrar and I will keep adding more activities for you to do on Purple Mash. I have also set up some new tournaments on TT Rockstars, let’s see if we can get these scores up even more!

I hope that you have had another lovely week and have been keeping busy. Make sure you are still getting outside for some fresh air, the sunny weather seems to have returned!

This week I have been doing some baking. I made some cupcakes; you will find the recipe and method to this on our class page. Go to ‘weekly challenges and activities’ >>> ‘Baking activities’ >>> ‘Cupcakes’. Let me know if you have had a go at this recipe or have done any baking of your own, I would love to see!

I have seen in the news this week that archaeologists have discovered around 30 coffins with mummies inside! They were thought to be buried around 3,500 years ago with jewellery in Luxor, Egypt. I thought that this would interest you all after studying our Egyptian topic earlier on this year. I have attached some links below for you to look at.

Let me know if you’ve seen anything interesting in the news this week that you’d like to share. I have posted the ‘Newsround’ link onto the ‘Useful links and websites’ part of our class page for you to access.

Remember to stay in touch and keep us updated on everything that you have been up to!

Missing you lots,

Miss Atkin

Week commencing 27/04/20

Hello again Class 10,

What a strange time it is for us all. We are in our 6th week of lockdown and it seems a lifetime ago since I have seen you all! We are all missing you and hope that you are staying safe.

I hope that you have been working hard on your new work packs as this will help to add a routine to your day. I can also see that a lot of you have been working hard on TT Rockstars and Purple Mash and have been completing the tasks that Mr Farrar and I have set. Please keep this up!

As well as working hard, I hope that you have enjoyed the sunny weather (fingers crossed we have more of it) and have been making the most of this time! I have been busy going for my daily walks, teaching my puppy (Pippa) some new tricks, baking some tasty treats and colouring/drawing.

I would love it if you could send me some pictures of the work you have done and anything else that you have been up to, so I can add them to our page for the rest of the class to see!

I hope you are all staying safe, keeping busy, but also having lots of fun!

Remember, don’t hesitate to ask if you need any help and stay in touch!
