Ightenhill Primary School

"To be the best that we can be"

Welcome letter for new Reception starters 2020

22nd April 2020

Dear Parents ‚Äč

We are delighted that you have chosen Ightenhill Primary School for your child and would like to take this opportunity to thank you for doing so. We trust that your child’s experience will be happy and successful and that they will enjoy their time with us. We now need to ensure that your child has a smooth transition from home to school.

In the coming weeks, you will receive a ‘Starting School Pack’. This contains key information and ‘green forms’which you will need to complete and return to school.  Our school office will be open as normal during term time. Please ensure that the completed ‘green’ forms are returned to school no later than Friday 12th June. You will also need to bring your child’s original birth certificate for us to copy.

The school closures currently in place (due to COVID-1) present us with an unprecedented situation where we are unable to plan our usual induction procedure which would include school visit sessions for the children and an information meeting for parents. The health and safety of your family and our school community however, must be our priority at this present time. We would like to reassure you though, that our reception staff team are working hard behind the scenes to make sure your children have the best possible start to school life.

We will operate a ‘staggered’ intake for September 2020 and children will be starting school on different days to allow for additional adult support time to make your child feel comfortable and happy during their first few days here. You will be informed at a later date of the day your child will be starting school. We will try to ensure, as far as we can, that children from the same nursery start on the same day.

We are proud of how closely we work with our families to support the education and well-being of our pupils. A number of our staff have our own children starting school this year too, so we fully understand the types of questions or concerns you might have. We will give every effort to help your child settle in to school life quickly and happily.

Should schools re-open fully in the coming weeks to make visit days and meetings possible, we will of course write to you again with updated induction information.

We look forward to meeting you soon, but in the meantime, if you have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. My email is

Yours sincerely,
