2022-2023 PE Curriculum Map

At Ightenhill, we follow the Lancashire Scheme of work for our PE curriculum. In KS1, our focus is on the fundamental movement skills, which the children need as they transition to our KS2 classes.

Curriculum breakdown

EYFS

In EYFS, the focus is on five skills; running, hopping, jumping, catching and throwing. They will take part in a range of activities, which will challenge the children in these areas.

Years 1 and 2

In years 1 and 2, the focus is on ten skills; overarm throw, underarm throw, hopping, jumping, skipping, catching, bouncing a ball, rolling a ball, kicking and running.

Key Stage 2

In Key Stage 2, we offer a broad and balanced curriculum, whereby the children are given ample opportunities to practise the skills learnt in Key Stage 1. They will take part in; athletics, invasion games, striking and fielding, net and wall, outdoor activities and gymnastics. There will also be opportunities throughout the year for the children to take part in dance.

You’ll find our long term plan and the skill focus below.
