To be the best that we can be.
Reverend Rick from Padiham Road Methodist Church, visited school to talk to the children about Advent. He explained why it is an important time for Christian people, and how told us about how Christian people celebrate this special time.
This year, our Harvest Festival donations are being given to the Burnley Community Grocery.
Burnley Community Grocery aims to bridge the gap between supermarkets and foodbanks and aims to help families and people across the UK stay fed.
We had a lovely whole school celebration assembly, where volunteers from the Burnley Community Grocery spoke about what our donations will be used for.
We also met the new vicar from Padiham Road Methodist Church, Reverend Rick. He spoke to the children about the origins of harvest, and why it is an important celebration for Christian people.
Learning about Advent
Year 2 have been busy learning about Advent. The children enjoyed making their own Christingles.
Christianity in Year 2
The children have enjoyed learning about the Christian belief, that God is a creator. They created their own salt dough creatures and breathed life into them.
Learning about Islam in Year 1
We had a visit from our faith friend, Rehana. She came to talk to us about her Islamic faith. We loved hearing about Rehana’s beliefs and learning about how she worships. Rehana brought some special clothes for us to try on and she showed us how Muslim people pray.
Learning about Hinduism in Year 4
We had a wonderful time learning about Hinduism with Neetal. She taught us a traditional Hindu dance.
In classes, we learned about Raksha Bandhan. This is a popular Hindu festival where sisters give their brothers a Raki to protect them. Then, we made our own Raki and talked about why we would give it to our brothers.
To celebrate harvest, we brought in lots of tins and packets of food. These are being donated to our local food bank. They will then be distributed to families in the local area who need a little helping hand.
